About Us
Pretoria Workshop for the Blind t/a VizAbility (previously DreamHouse) is a non-profit organization founded in 1929 to provide employment to visually impaired and disabled people. The organization embarked on a business-oriented approach as opposed to a welfare-oriented approach. The ethos of creating employment, according to their restrictions, for people living with disabilities, is strictly adhered to.
As an NPC, VizAbility strives to become financially self-sustainable. The manufacturing and contract packaging market
was entered and has proved to be ideal for the employees; mentally, physically, and financially. In 2003 VizAbility
acquired a company which manufactures, packs and exports fertiliser sticks and has very successfully managed this enterprise.
This taxable company, the Greener Fertiliser Option (Pty) Ltd has VizAbility as its sole shareholder and exports to Europe and
supplies locally.
VizAbility with its unique workforce offers manufacturing and packing services to the broader market both locally and
internationally. VizAbility endeavours to partner with corporate South Africa for business opportunities as a Corporate
Social Investment (CSI) partner of choice.
VizAbility is a service provider with a unique workforce who has proved itself to take on projects and deliver on-time, quality services.
Our Slogan
Seeing the Unseen:
Creating an enabled workforce
by enabling people with disabilities.
OUR STRATEGY
VizAbility is keen to demonstrate to society what people living with disabilities can achieve, if given an opportunity. It is thus imperative that the quality of products is on par with, or higher than that produced by mainstream businesses.
NPC's play a major role in solving problems of the steadily increasing social ills, which include
poverty, health and education and are a serious challenge to the country’s development. As an NPC,
financial sustainability is subject to its ability to broaden income and acquire new funds and enter new
markets. The more diverse sources of funding an organization has, the more financially self-sufficient and
sustainable it will be. NPCs are, therefore, commonly faced with the challenge of financial
sustainability, which impacts negatively on the achievement of objectives.
To survive, VizAbility is constantly looking for innovative and effective business and funding models.
It is with this view that we are approaching well established business to partner with us or use our
services as a CSI partner of choice.
OUR CHALLENGES AND NEEDS
VizAbility with its unique workforce offers manufacturing and packing services to the broader market both locally
and internationally. VizAbility endeavours to partner with corporate South Africa for business opportunities as a
Corporate Social Investment (CSI) partner of choice.
VizAbility encourages donors, sponsors, and funders to partner with us in assisting and empowering
us
through funding our specific projects. These funds are then allocated towards running costs, equipment, or
machinery to generate more work for persons with disabilities. VizAbility is registered with SARS and able
to provide Section 18A receipts for any donations received.
